Deanna W. asks: My husband is going TDY to WOBC at Fort Gordon for 6 months. Does anyone know if the Army will move me and the kids?

Jocelyn P. says: I asked my husband and he said if it's only 6 months. The Army most likely move you guys :/ But have him ask his command!

Angie S. says: I "think" (so don't quote me on this) that if the TDY is longer than 20 weeks they will move you. Never dealt with this personaly in the last 12 years but I thing that is the number I have heard floating around.

Jessica K. says: It depends on the TDY stationed. Normally yes but for some unknown reason they can refuse it. I pcsed with myhusband but his was for AIT.

Nicole L. says: Usually the orders have to say "move with dependents" A TDY implies that it is a temporary Duty station. Have your husband check his RFO or orders if you have them. If you are not listed on there then the Army will not pay to move you. You always have the choice to move yourself though.

Stephanie L. says: We are at Gordon now for the hubby to do WOBC but his is 8 months. The Army moved us before he even reported to WOCS. It should be a PCS move because he will be assigned to a new unit and not TDY.

Karolyn M. says: 20 weeks or longer they will.

Deanna M. says: It would be easier but we came home from Germany 2 years early EROD because of a medical issue one off the kids has they discovered in Germany. We just want to be with him again ASAP.

Charm S. says: Lucky for you Army families. Marine Corp families do not get to move on TAD ( temporary add'l orders) for anything less than a year.

Candice B. says: Far as I know they dont move you unless its a PCS move..my husband is tdy for a yr in germany and we couldnt go ..sorry hope it works out for you all.

Rosanna M. says: If it's stateside and 20 weeks or longer usually they will cover the move.

Janessa E. says: If they will move you here with him then you would qualify for post housing. Usually on post housing here at Gordon is pretty easy to get into too but you might want to look at places off post. Depending on your rank and how many dependents you have..housing isn't exactly ideal here. We have been stationed here since 2007 and we moved off post after living there (in 2 different houses because the 1st one fell apart so bad) for about 2 years. We have lived off post since. If you have any questions about the area just message me. There are some areas you'll want to stay out of. :) Good luck!

Amie H. says: I'm in the army and so is my hubby and I think the school has to be more then 52 weeks for the army to move you because they are going to look at it as are you going to move with him if he has to deploy or if he has to go to alc or Slc...if it is a tdy enroute to pcs then they will move you to the pcs location but I don't think they are gonna move you twice in one year because if you think about it you can't move with them when they pcs overseas for 12 months unless you get a command sponsorship and then it extends there tour to 2-3 years instead of one so Im pretty sure they won't do it for 6 months.....good luck though.

Brittany W. says: It has to be over 6 months. My husband had to go to Fort Gordon for training and it was shy of six months by less then a week so they wouldn't move me there.

My husband was at Fort Gordon for about a year in training and neither of us were very fond of this base.  It is primarily a training facility with some but not many permanent party members.  I found that the PX was practically non-existent because of it's size and if you're located near gate five just exiting the gate you'll find yourself in the ghetto.  I did prefer the produce in the Commisary over those found in Kroger in such because it was almost always fresher and cheaper.  The civilians and such that work in Darlinghall and in retail positions tend to be rude and short with others even when you are being kind in return.  We are in the process of out-processing to our new duty station and I can't say that I'm sad to say goodbye.  I will say to those that said they couldn't find anyone to be friends with here that I didn't have a problem finding SEVERAL of couples that my husband and I had the pleasure of spending Friday nights with and having social gatherings with.  It all depends on how hard you look for friends.  The post had nothing to do with preventing us from making friends.

If you're moving to Fort Gordon... Good luck!

Ft. Gordon is awful. It is a training post with no support for permanent party spouses. People are extremely unfriendly and rude. We have been stationed here three years and cannot wait to get away from this place. The people who work on post have no cares for anyone they serve. The PX Staff is horrendous. Everytime I have to ask an associate for help with something, they treat you like it is an inconvenience to them. They also take their sweet time?「どィャカ.they have no regards for their customers. The reverse discrimination is rampant at this post. I have been assured by so many military spouses that this post is not the way of other posts. I can honestly say that I have not met anyone at this post that I would be inclined to communicate with in the future. This is very unfortunate as I really enjoy meeting people and making friends. I cannot wait until we get to our new duty station. Ghetto just does not even begin to describe Ft. Gordon or Richmond County GA.

flipcam Giveaway entry:
This is a pretty big post (to me) although its not big in comparison to a place like Fort Hood.
This is an Army post, but we have a little bit of everyone here. This post is mainly taining and Signal althouh again we have a handful of MI also.
There is a lot available on Fort Gordon. They have the Signal Newspaper once a week and te FYI magazine once a month to tell you about post news and events (both are free)
If you?「どィび「re not from the South this place is CRAZY HOT ! I think you get used to it though, and who doesn?「どィび「t love a tan all year round lol.
This is not my favorite place but I like it here. I?「どィび「ve met so many supportive people and made some friendships to last a lifetime :)
PX is pretty normal.

We have been at Fort Gordon for about a year now. It is a very small post, because it is mostly a training post. There isn?「どィび「t a lot to do on the post itself-a bowling alley, a bar, and they will have usually monthly events that are pretty good if you have kids, but not really much to do at them if you?「どィび「re an adult couple without kids.

There isn?「どィび「t a lot to do in Augusta but you are about 3 hours away from several major cities, Savannah, Atlanta, Charleston, SC, and the beach. That?「どィび「s where we have gone when we wanted to do something because the only thing we?「どィび「ve found in Augusta is the movies and the mall.

Fort Gordon is sort of a small base near the city of Augusta, GA. It is mostly a training base. We are about 3 hours from Atlanta. And near Fort Jackson, SC, and Savannah, GA. Some of the housing here on post are new but majority of the homes are older where some have been remodeled. If you happen to come here as permanent party and you move into the older housing I do recommend getting a portable shed for your backyard for extra storage. The homes can be quite small. There are lots of activities for the kids to do on and off post. On post you can find a bowling alley, theater (dinner and movie), chapel, MWR, dry cleaner, thrift shop, PX, Pxtra, commissary, go kart, horse riding, golf course and class6. There are plenty of festivals and activities to do downtown Augusta. You can also visit the river walk and enjoy a boat ride. The schools on post fall under Richmond County which is really not a successful school system. If you have the choice Columbia county schools are the better choice.
